When writing objectives for your plans, write objectives that clearly address how students will master the requirements of the corresponding standard. This means your objectives should include:
- A verb describing what the students will need to do
- An object, product, strategy or tool the students will use to accomplish the goal
- The vocabulary of the standard
For example, here is how you would write out an objective that addresses the requirements of the standard: CCSS.ELA.RL.2.9.
Standard:
“Compare and contrast two or more versions of the same story by different authors or from different cultures”:
Objective:
“Students will use a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the settings in 2 versions of Sleeping Beauty.”
- A verb describing what the students will need to do: “Compare and Contrast”
- An object, product, strategy or tool the students will use to accomplish the goal: “Use a Venn diagram”
- Vocabulary of the standard: “Venn diagram, setting, compare, contrast”
